Headshrinking

Cancer, it is a headshrinker. The first hat I knitted for my Mamasita was when she was in the throes of one of her many bouts of chemotherapy. It wasn’t much bigger than a child’s size. Completion was an achievement because it was the second thing I had ever made and I loved being able to give it as a present in thanks for being taught, at a very late age, how to knit. Today I finished the third hat I have ever made and I gave it, once again to my Mamasita whose head has expanded or perhaps it’s the fact she has hair now that makes such a difference! The story of the second hat, green and mutant, can keep for now.

Here’s Mamasita sitting pretty, in a new cabled hand knitted Aran hat.. 5 years after her stem cell transplant. Happy, healthy and cancer free.
